The word Fraud is used to threaten may good businesses today and the bullies know this and unfortunately sometimes it works. You can call this many things like extortion, blackmail, coercion...all kinds of nasty words we have for this type of thing. Even worse, because of these shallow minded individuals screaming the word Fraud and posting it on blogs and other sites will cause the companies that are the victims to have to hire attorneys and public relations companies to scour internet to try to deal with the tantrums of these people. Does it work for these bullies? Unfortunately, sometimes, yes.

Ever notice how somehow some of the traits we see in the playgrounds at our schools carries over to the world of business? What I am referring to is the bully that taunts everyone looking for attention at any cost. We all know the best cure for a bully is to ignore them as when they do not get the attention they are craving, they get bored and move on to something else, or unfortunately someone else that will give them the attention they are looking for. In business, the most popular way for these bullies to get attention is to scream the word Fraud as loudly as they can as this is surly get the attention of some people around them.

While there are plenty of Frauds going on daily, and some reports are true...if there are no charges or convictions tied to the Fraud claim and there are repeat instances of this conduct by the perpetrator, what are the odds the Fraud story is accurate in the beginning? One would expect if a company was involved in a high level Fraud, there would at least be an investigation.

It appears that in the real world as opposed to the insular world of academia, those on the ethics firing line are the ones doing the real work of medicine - i.e., the physicians and nurses. Bioethics is best done by those who encounter these real-life issues on a regular basis, out in the world. Academics can talk and write at length and at their leisure, but there is no substitute for actual experience.
