The Yankee Candle Fundraiser all started in 1969 when Mike Kittredge, then 17 years old, decided to make a Christmas present for his mother by melting his crayons to make a candle. When a neighbor saw what he was doing, she convinced Mike to sell the candle to her so he could buy more wax to make more candles to give his mom and sell them at the same time.
